Raised in the heart of Australian country music, Mitchell’s love for theatre and acting began in his hometown of Tamworth when he do-si-doed into a local PCYC-based improvisational group. His aspirations for acting were solidified at age 14 when he watched Norma Desmond descend her staircase in Sunset Boulevard, warbling about affecting the masses with simply a look; Mitchell turned to his father and simply remarked that “he’ll have what she’s having”. Mitchell continued to perform with both the Dramatic and Musical Societies in Tamworth during his final four years of high school, including performing as Kynaston in Australia’s first staging of Jessica Swale’s Nell Gwynn. Upon finishing high school Mitchell would go on to perform in the Seymour Centre’s 2019 season of OnStage, 4 months prior to getting into ACA.
During his time at ACA Mitchell has played the following roles: Man – Who’s Afraid of the Working Class? (dir. Troy Harrison), Ralph Clark –Our Country’s Good (dir. Troy Harrison), Nils Krogstad – A Doll’s House (dir. Francesca Savige), Angelo – Measure for Measure (dir. Damien Ryan), Paris – Romeo and Juliet (dir. Craig Baldwin), Fred – The Invisible Man (Rikiah Lizarraga), Septimus Hodge – Arcadia (dir. Adam Cook), Just Joey – Concord Floral ( Noah Martin) and Eric Glass – The Inheritance (dir. Troy Harrison).
Mitchell’s love for Shakespeare, language and poetry has only been amplified through the roles and writers he’s had the pleasure to explore in the last three years as well as his contributions and development as part of ACA’s student writers’ group. He is excited for the rich and vibrant industry he is about to enter and to continue to grow as an artist, actor and storyteller.
