Craig Baldwin directs and acts extensively across the U.S. and Australia. He was the first Australian to graduate from the prestigious theatre program at The Juilliard School and has served as Artistic Associate at Shakespeare Theatre Company in DC, and Associate Artistic Director of Red Bull Theatre.
Recently, Craig directed Hamlet for Shakespeare Theatre Company in DC, featuring Michael Urie. His 2019 production of Annie Baker’s John garnered 6 nominations, including best director, and the award for Best Production at the Sydney Theatre Awards. He also helmed the Sydney premiere of The Flick and The Aliens, and directed Macbeth and Coriolanus for the Shakespeare Theatre Company ACA program. Craig was Associate Director on The Secret Garden during its “pre-Broadway” run at 5th Avenue, TUTS, and Shakespeare Theatre Company and directed the world premiere of C.O.A.L. (confessions of a liar) at 59E59 and The More Loving One by Cory Conley, receiving the Best Overall Production of a Play award in the 2011 New York International Fringe Festival. He has worked with Lincoln Centre Theatre, Roundabout Theatre Company, Classic Stage Company, and more, and assisted directors Sam Gold, Ethan McSweeny, Ed Iskandar, Michael Kahn, David Muse, and more.
As an actor, Craig appeared in Twelfth Night for Shakespeare in the Park (with Jimmy Smits, Julia Stiles, and Michael Stuhlbarg), The Tempest (with Mandy Patinkin), Richard III and Richard II, for Classic Stage Company, The Field for Irish Repertory Theatre, and more at theatres like Two River, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Reduced Shakespeare Company, Pittsburgh Public, Shakespeare & Company, Berkshire Theatre Group, and more. He is the voice of the audiobooks Sweet Damage and A Fraction of the Whole.
Craig was named an “artist of extraordinary ability” and made a permanent resident of the US.
